First Visit

Our goal is for every child to have the greatest dental visit possible! As specialists in pediatric dental care, we want each child to feel comfortable, safe and cared for in a fun, supportive environment.

By educating both parents and patients on the best dental hygiene techniques, we hope to help create healthy, happy smiles for you children. We know that a trip to the dentist can sometimes cause kids to feel anxious. The entire team at Finney Pediatric Dentistry strives to provide a fun, kid-friendly place for your child to feel at ease at every visit.

When should I bring my child to the dentist?

As recommended by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Academy of Pediatrics, we encourage all children to have their 1st dental visit scheduled by his/her 1st birthday.

Preparing for your child's first dental visit

We strive to make this very important 1st dental visit as enjoyable and easy as possible. We are excited to meet your child and want them to enjoy getting to know our doctor and staff. A positive 1st visit will build trust and help ease children’s minds for future dental visits.

What should I tell my child?

It is best to not make too big of a deal about this visit to your child, to prevent causing any unnecessary fears. Reassure them that the dentist and staff will show and explain everything in detail to them before anything is done, and will answer any and all questions your child may have.

Also, refrain from using any words like “shot, needle, or drill” which could trigger scary thoughts. We are experienced in dealing with children with anxiety and can explain things in a positive, kid-friendly manner to avoid any negative feelings about visiting the dentist.

Dr. Finney and her staff will demonstrate  the most effective methods for brushing and flossing with you and your child. We will discuss all dental findings and explain any recommended treatment that may be needed to keep your child’s teeth as healthy as possible.
